Summer's Here!

This summer season kicks off with a spotlight on another mini-public art project for the city of Coeur d'Alene, installed late last year, this utility box celebrates my original art work titled "Pursuit 1" aka "Ake's Sheep Creek Special" The box is on the corner of 4th and Best in CDA.
What a great way to beautify the community and support the arts, Thanks Coeur d'Alene!

Utility box application is a digital, vinyl wrap of an original art work

The wraps provide a 360 degree viewing of the art, creating a monolithic type sculptural presentation out of an otherwise urban utility eyesore. A cool idea...

the image carries around the box

Below is an image of the original, created for Lin Akey of Whitefish, MT, you can see how they enlarged the art to accommodate the large format of the utility box.

New Work:

I'm busy in the studio creating new works for this season, here I'm working on a new abstract fly.

A new Fly in the making!
First I build up textures with modeling paste, then I get the canvas wet and introduce various colors to the wash, here I'm encouraging the wash with a spray bottle. When it gets to a point that I like, I encourage the drying process, then I do it all over again, with multiple layers creating the effects and depth that I'm looking for, then I finish the Fly details. I'll show you the finished piece in the next post.

Summer Events:

Pacific Flyway Gallery, Spokane Valley

The "Summer of Flootie" features a summer long showing of artists works featured on the website, with meet the artist events. I'm pleased to say that my work will be featured along with many fine artists from the region.

I'll be back at Arbor Crest Winery for their Art & Glass Fest again this year, this event has become my favorite event of the summer. Join us in this beautiful setting, great crowd and enjoy their world class wines while you enjoy many of the regions talented artists. "Oh, and don't be afraid to find something to take home".
